How Groups and Lists work together
Groups and the related Lists are at the heart of PrayMore. They represent and manage the groups in your organization and the lists of prayers shared in each. Here are a few key things to remember as you plan for your groups and lists.
A Group is a collection of users in your organization that you want to be able to see (and potentially post) prayers.
- Groups have members (users from within your organization)
- Groups can have approvers and admins that will allow them to manage content and group members.
- A user can be a member of multiple groups. For instance a user can be a member of the "All Church" group as well as "Wednesday Bible Study". The user can see and interact with prayers in both groups.
- Groups are not really presented to your users on the PrayMore Mobile app. They will only see the lists associated with that group
A list is a collection of prayers and announcements inside a group that a user can subscribe to in PrayMore
Lists are where the praying gets done. It may be in a Curated list where you post weekly prayer items for the congregation to pray though each week. It may instead be a Shared list where group members can openly share their own prayers of need or rejoicing. Lists are what your user sees when they tap on your organization in PrayMore settings.
- While a single group can have multiple lists, most groups in an organization will only have one list. A men's bible study, for instance, would only need one list for all of the guys to share.
- A list has no ability to control who sees it. The list's group will control that.
- A list of type Shared is used to allow users to post their own prayers to that list.
- A list of type Curated is used to allow admins to post prepared HTML content to the list. End users cannot create prayers or updates in this type of list.
- When a group has only one list, we recommend giving both the group and the list the same name for easier understanding by both admins and users.
Here is an example of how groups and lists might be configured for a small church:
- All Church (Group for all church members to see)
- Prayer List (Curated List to distribute church-wide prayers)
- Learning to Pray (Curated list that all members can select to further grow their prayer life)
- Men's Group (Group for the guys that meet every friday)
- Men's Group (Shared list for the group)
- High School Girls (Group for a high school girls bible study)
- High School Girls (Shared list for the group)
- Pastors (Group with pastoral members)
- Pastor Private Prayer (Shared List for pastors to share with each other)
- Congregation Submitted Prayer (Shared List that allows users in the "All Church" group to submit for pastoral prayer)
In the above example there are six lists shared across 4 groups. Here is how some of those would be seen by the users:
Helen is a member of the church, but she is not in any of the other groups, so she is just a member of the "All Church" group and as a result, can only see the "Prayer List" and "Learning to Pray" lists. She can share a prayer to the "Congregation Submitted Prayer" list but she cannot see anything in that list.

Joe is a member of the men's group. He is also a member of "All Church" so he can see everything that Helen sees as well as the "Men's Group" List. He can also post to the "Men's Group" list in addition to the "Congregation Submitted Prayer"

Leon is a Pastor. He is a member of "All Church" and "Men's Group" as well as "Pastors". He can see everything Joe and Helen can see. He can also view the items in the "Congregation Submitted Prayer" and "Pastor Private Prayer" lists. He cannot see what is shared in the "High School Girls" list.

Ella is from another church, but she is a member of the girls bible study. As a result she is only a member of "High School Girls" and therefore only has access to the "High School Girls" list
